Laurie Rich is one of Silo Gallery’s Glass Artists and also one of our regularly featured Visiting Tutors. Among Laurie’s varied and interesting classes at Silo, she includes technical knowledge of working with Bullseye glass, where her years of experimentation, pushing the boundaries, and deep understanding of varying properties and reactions, is shared with students.
Laurie has this to say about her years of working with glass.
“I like to make stuff, build stuff, investigate and explore stuff and, most of all, I like to teach stuff. To me, glass is singularly the most perfect material to do all the things I love to do.
“Beginning in the mid-70’s, I began exploring glass; specifically leaded and foiled stained glass. But because of the way glass behaves when you try to manipulate it, stained glass methods are extremely limiting.
Mostly, I love sharing the joy fusing gives me and enabling others to discover that joy. There is nothing more gratifying for me than to see a learner master a skill, or experience an “aha” moment in their glass journey.
I hope these pieces inspire you, ignite your curiosity and spur your exploration."
